Directed Energy is a program managed by the University at Buffalo (UB) Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR). The Director of the program is Martin Casstevens, assisted by numerous people in various organizations who provide technical, organizational, and business assistance to the program and its client companies.

Directed Energy is financially supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency (NYSERDA) funded through PON 1216. NYSERDA strives to facilitate change through the widespread development and use of innovative technologies to improve the State’s energy, economic, and environmental wellbeing. UB Center for Industrial Effectiveness is a program of University at Buffalo (UB) School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). Founded in 1987, the center was created to provide a bridge for industry and university partnerships. Partnering with the community in a variety of ways, the center’s services range from joint research and development ventures and co-op work arrangements for students, to professional development and consulting in Lean Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma. The center’s mission is to deliver significant and sustainable performance improvements to transform a business, improving cost, quality, delivery, and safety. The center is recognized in Western New York as a leader in business transformation, research and development, and technical assistance.

Alfred University is located in the Village of Alfred two hours southeast of Buffalo. With five separate schools and colleges, the institution's reputation is grounded in the arts and engineering. Of particular interest to Directed Energy's clients, is Alfred University's expertise in materials science and engineering with an emphasis on ceramic and glass materials.
The University routinely works with NYS industry through the Center for Advanced Ceramics Technology (http://cact.alfred.edu) and its user facility for high temperature materials testing that is projected to open in Q1 2010.

Insyte Consulting (Insyte) is one of the largest management consulting organizations in WNY. The Vantage Center is a business incubator located in Vantage International Pointe which is a 158-acre park zoned for light industrial, warehouse/distribution and R&D facilities.
