Photovoltaics-Silicon and Beyond
Wednesday, September 15
Buffalo/Niagara Marriott, Amherst, New York, 8:30a.m. - 1:30p.m.
While photovoltaic (PV) power still faces cost concerns and other obstacles, rapid development in the industry has turned the question from whether PV will reach widespread use to when it will break into the mainstream.
Join us as our panel of industry insiders sorts through the business implications of competing solar technologies, tax credits and other incentives, and current and proposed standards and regulations — as well as how these and other developments may impact PV energy providers, utilities, municipalities, public agencies, and business and residential consumers.
Speakers
Director, National Center for Photovoltaics at NREL
Dr. Raffaelle is an accomplished scientist having made numerous contributions in PV, thin film processing and nanomaterials research while at RIT and the Golisano Institute for Sustainability before accepting his current position at NREL.
President, Pivotry Consulting Group, Inc., Ontario Canada
Dr. Chang brings over 15 years of hi-tech experience working in engineering groups facing technical challenges during product life cycles, and from start-up to industry leaders including Fortune 500 companies. He will speak on recent solar PV developments in Ontario, Canada and provide information on the Province of Ontario’s Green Energy and Green Economy Act of 2009.
East Coast Campaigns Director of The Vote Solar Initiative
The Vote Solar Initiative is an organization that promotes widespread adoption of Solar power. Shaun manages Vote Solar’s efforts on the East Coast. will speak on legislative efforts in NY and neighboring states to incentivize and install PV.
Managing Partner, TPF Enterprises LLC
Technical Editor, Global Solar Technology
Dr. Rae has been associated with the electronics and ceramics industry for over 25 years and recently has been applying this experience in the fields of nanotechnology and "clean tech."
Campus Architect, University at Buffalo
Founder, Urban Design Project, University at Buffalo
Chair, Environmental Stewardship Committee, University at Buffalo
Professor, Architecture, University at Buffalo
In May 2009, the New York Power Authority announced a $7.5M award to install a large solar array at the University at Buffalo. Mr. Shibley will discuss what has gone into its design and construction, the roadmap forward, and provide a practical assessment of its anticipated performance.
Assist. Professor, Chemistry, University at Buffalo
Dr. Watson’s research targets the synthesis, characterization, and self-assembly of inorganic nanomaterials, and fundamental studies of photoinduced electron transfer processes at interfaces. Dr. Watson will review the importance of these processes in next-generation PV materials and some of the work he and his colleagues at UB are engaged in.
Who should attend: CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CTOs, CIOs, and other executives, managers, and decision-makers; researchers, academics, and engineers; purchasing agents; and others involved with or interested in the opportunities resulting from recent innovation.
